Mars, a golden retriever, died onboard a China Southern Airlines flight to Beijing. When the flight landed, the owner found the dog missing from its crate and its body was found a day later. The same thing happened to Apple, a Penkingese on a flight to Guangzhou.
China needs to address this problem and improve standards for pet transport on airlines.
Pets are like family members. We live with them, care for them and love them just as they love us. When we take them on vacation, we expect the airline officials to do everything possible to ensure they arrive safely -- just like they do with people.
China has weaker standards for pet transport than other countries. Passengers and employees are poorly trained, and there have even been reports of pet crates being thrown around Chinese airports.
Airline passengers should have confidence that flying won't mean a death sentence for their pets. Tell China's Civil Aviation Adminisitration to improve pet safety on airlines!
